Le Tour de l'Avenir

Created in 1961, le Tour de l’Avenir, an international race by stages, is considered as being the “younger brother” of le Tour de France. Open to riders under 25, le Tour de l’Avenir is the race which reveals tomorrow’s champions. Its aim has always been to promote the “Elite” young riders and train them to meet the demanding reality of a race by stages. Le Tour de l’Avenir has consecrated great champions such as Gimondi, Zoetemelk, Lemond, Fignon or Indurain who all won le Tour de France during their career. Since 1996, le Tour de l’Avenir has taken on a new dimension by reproducing the blueprint of le Tour de France over 10 stages: racing over flat terrain, time trial, high mountains and distinctive jerseys (yellow, green and polka-dot).
