14-16/06/2013Last January 4, the Roc d'Azur and the town of Fréjus renewed their partnership for ten more years. Yann le Moënner, the general manager of Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) and Élie Brun, the mayor of Fréjus, seized the opportunity to emphasise the strong ties binding the biggest mountain biking event in the world and the town in the Var. They also expressed their shared commitment to extending the range of this major sports event. The Roc d'Azur was first organised in 1997 in Fréjus' François Léotard Nature Base. It has since grown year after year, and fifteen years later it attracted 20,000 mountain bikers of all ages (both amateurs and professionals) and 170,000 enthusiastic spectators.
The 2012 edition of the Roc d'Azur will be held from Wednesday, October 10 to Sunday, October 14. The registration period for the 29th edition began in mid-December. 5,000 participants have already fulfilled the formalities to take part in the race and rides on the programme. The races will start in Fréjus' François Léotard Nature Base, go up and down the Les Maures massif and cross the jaw-dropping towns of Roquebrune-sur-Argens and Sainte-Maxime. The Roc d'Azur will also be a chance to discover the great brands of the world of mountain biking and road cycling. 250 exhibitors from all over Europe will be there to showcase their ranges at the Bicycle and Mountain Bike Show. Those present will also enjoy a great deal of activities (Dirt Trial, BMX exhibitions and contests, introduction courses, etc.) in this 17,000 m2 area, which will be open from Thursday 11 at 2 pm to Sunday 14 at 6 pm. Admission will be free.
Nowadays, the Roc d'Azur is to mountain biking like the Tour de France is to road cycling.
